1902年に分離派会館で開催された第14回分離派展（通称ベートーヴェン展）に展示されたグスタフ・クリムト（Gustav Klimt 1862-1918）の『ベートーヴェン・フリーズ』がモチーフの切手です。
『ベートーヴェン・フリーズ』はベートーヴェンの交響曲第９番をテーマに、黄金の甲冑を着た騎士が、幸福を求めて欲望や敵に向い、勝利し楽園にたどり着くまでの旅路が描かれています。
